Celtic Sea Minerals

We are powered by science.

Our mission is to help animal feed producers, integrators and farmers to feed a growing global population in a natural, ethical and sustainable way.

Our Story

The story of Celtic Sea Minerals didn’t start out with years of planning and a detailed business plan. Celtic Sea Minerals started out after a chance meeting with a guy in a bar in Cork, Ireland. An entrepreneurial feeling that, if nurtured carefully, there might be a business opportunity in harvesting the red seaweed algae Lithothamnium calcareum.

Today our products are exported to over 40 countries globally for use in a wide array of animal diets and animal livestock farming systems. Over the past 30 years, the key to our success has been the combination of sustainable natural marine minerals, high quality production techniques, strong scientific research and a passionate team of highly skilled professionals all working hard every day to deliver for our customers.

We are powered by science, undertaking the most in-depth scientific approach to discover, prove and deliver unique sustainable nutritional solutions to the animal feed manufacturers. At Celtic Sea Minerals we believe the only way to deliver the highest quality marine minerals to animal feed producers, is for us to control every step of the production process starting at the prime source. After nearly 30 years, Celtic Sea Minerals know each step of the process in a way that can only come with so many years of doing, questioning and improving. Also, because we don’t outsource or subcontract any of the steps in the process, we are confident nobody can match us when it comes to having the best and most detailed process and product knowledge.

Our Science

Celtic Sea Minerals is an animal nutrition company powered by science. We are worldwide market leader in the research and production of marine minerals derived from the red seaweed algae Lithothamnium calcareum. Our scientific approach results in over 100 research papers, and 50 peer reviewed scientific publications specific for our products. Since Celtic Sea Minerals was founded there has been a consistent commitment to investing in science and research. Hence, we can maintain our position as market leader in the field of marine minerals based on red seaweed algae Lithothamnium calcareum.

Our nutritional solutions are used as animal feed ingredient to support animal health, healthy animal gut function, and sustainable animal livestock production for dairy cows, beef cattle, small ruminants, swine, broiler chickens and egg laying hens. Celtic Sea Minerals applied the science to seaweed nutrition with products such as Acid Buf, CalMin, ProMin, CeltiCal and CeltiMin. Our mission is to help animal feed producers, integrators and farmers to feed a growing global population in a natural, ethical and sustainable way.

Application of Science

Celtic Sea Minerals were one of the first companies to really ‘have applied the science to seaweed’ and the role that seaweed nutrition can play in improving the health of animals, plants and humans. We invest heavily on an ongoing basis into our own intensive research programme. To date this has already yielded over 100 research papers. A significant part is published in high-end scientific journals such as the Journal of Dairy Science.

Biotechnology centre

We have our own biotechnology centre for non-stop innovation. We use state-of-the-art materials & methods and have a team of scientists with different areas of expertise. Our research facility also serves our customers across the globe with strategic insights. This allows them to stay one step ahead. Science confirms that our natural, ethical and sustainable nutritional solutions will enhance a healthy animal gut function and optimise livestock performance.

Knowledge Leader

We believe the only way to deliver to the highest quality standards is to control every step of the prodcution process. This is exactly what we do, starting at the source. Nobody knows more about marine mineral algae than we do. It’s this constant thirst for knowledge that has guided the company for nearly 30 years and led us in our efforts to innovate and develop new products that provide scientifically proven nutritional solutions for animal livestock production in a sustainable, responsible and profitable way.
